EnVision Math

Check your child's planner for information about how to access an online version of our EnVision math textbook and animated companion lessons.  This is a great resource for your child to review what they have learned in class, or for you to get an idea of what your child is learning.  However, I ask that you keep in mind that we do not follow the scope and sequence exactly as it is laid out in the EnVision program because we are now teaching the Common Core Standards.  The following website has pdf files you may access for extra practice or enrichment for any of the topics we are learning or have learned in class, including answer sheets: http://schools.dcsdk12.org/education/components/docmgr/default.php?sectiondetailid=205937.  Be aware that this link will take you to another district's website.

Math Facts Practice

Many parents and students have been asking about options for practicing math facts at home, so I thought I'd share a few here.

If your child is not able to access the computer to practice math facts, you might purchase some flashcards. Many dollar stores carry flash cards, as well as stores such as Walmart and Target. You might also consider printing out math fact practice from one of the following websites: http://www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/, http://www.math-drills.com/, or http://themathworksheetsite.com/. Some of these sites offer printable flashcards as well. You could have a family game night with one of the purchasable games from this website: http://www.homeschoolwithlove.com/2012/02/19/learning-math-facts-fun/.

If your child is able to access the computer to practice math facts, there are a great variety of options. All of the students in my class have an account with Sumdog. If your child needs another copy of his or her log in information, please let me know and I will glue it into his or her planner! Many of the students enjoy the "Window Wash Up" games, which are available for addition, s.ubtraction, multiplication, or division. You may access the Wash Up games, along with many others, by visiting the following website: http://www.fun4thebrain.com/index.html or you can just use Google (i.e. "subtraction wash up") and it will be toward the top of the list.

Math is Fun!

When I first tell kids that I love math because it is so much fun, they usually don't believe me... or they look at me like I've lost my marbles!  If you don't already think math is fun, I bet you will by the time you leave my class!  In the meantime, have some fun with the math games on this website: http://www.playkidsgames.com/mathGames.htm
